Methanex – Investing in new distillation technology to reduce emissions

Methanex New Zealand’s upgrade of its two Motunui distillation columns is expected to reduce emissions by up to 50,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. The project team used advanced software to improve the design and performance of the distillation trays and deliver a 25 per cent lift in the columns’ distillation capacity. A team of 95 installers removed and replaced trays in the confined spaces of the two 70-metre columns within a tight 60-day maintenance shut and completed the project under budget and ahead of schedule.
