Geocamp: Inspiring kids and teachers into science
GeoCamp is a cornerstone of the GNS Science outreach programme, opening eyes and minds to the role science plays in New Zealand’s future. It aims to enthuse intermediate aged children about the possibilities of science and make them aware that science is something they can understand and participate in. GeoCamp comprises a two-week field-based programme for students and their teachers, designed as an experience as close to undertaking “real science” as possible. GNS Science, with support from industry and philanthropic partners Statoil and the Todd Foundation, has completed five full GeoCamps since 2011, leading to multiple smaller scale events for children and Iwi groups.
