DB's brewery in Timaru has successfully switched from coal to biomass-derived steam through a power purchase agreement with Pioneer Energy. The transition at the Timaru site cut emissions by the equivalent of 260 tonnes of CO2 in October alone and is forecast to abate a further 2,500 tonnes in 2022. By the end of this year, the Timaru brewery's emissions will have fallen to about 2 per cent of DB's annual carbon footprint, from about 28 per cent previously.
