Introducing a simpler, smarter entry process for 2027
For 2027, the New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards is introducing a new two-stage entry process, designed to make entering faster, easier and more accessible for organisations across the energy sector.
This change reflects feedback from past entrants and a review of the awards process, with the goal of reducing the upfront time commitment while continuing to recognise New Zealand's most outstanding energy projects, initiatives and achievements.
Stage 1 – Expression of Interest
Entrants begin by completing a short online Expression of Interest (EOI) form for their chosen category. The form will capture a summary of the initiative, project, person, or achievement, along with key supporting metrics and results.
Our judging panel will review all EOIs and develop a shortlist of entries to progress to Stage 2.
Stage 2 – Finalist Submission
Shortlisted entrants will then be invited to complete a more detailed award submission. These application forms have also been streamlined and reduced in length compared with previous years, making the process more efficient while still providing judges with the information needed to assess excellence.
This approach ensures organisations only invest additional time in preparing a full submission once they have been identified as strong contenders for an award.
Benefits of the New Process
- Less upfront work – complete a concise EOI before committing to a full submission.
- More efficient use of time – detailed applications are only required from shortlisted entrants.
- Greater accessibility – encourages participation from organisations of all sizes.
- Streamlined submissions – Stage 2 forms are shorter and more focused than previous award applications.
- Maintained judging rigour – judges still receive the information required to identify and celebrate excellence across New Zealand's energy sector.
